Mahalo Peter and Mingo for the information.
I just interrupted the mix-down in session downstairs to let the guys know about this. The band in tonight is scheduled back in over the weekend of Sept 1/2, but are a bit ahead of schedule on their CD project, so we may try to work in a trip to the swap meet and Labor Day weekend events...Tom has a 24x8 Mackie analog board he wants to sell now that he has his 'new' toy, an Amek Angela II board. (Most of this is over my head, but I do a lot of his administrative work and am getting more conversant in the technology as time goes by!)
Hope our paths cross in the near future...
Aloha,
Cynthia
(Sorry, Peter, if I was unclear in my previous post. Tom is my 'significant other' => SO . I am completely un-musical, but consider myself very lucky to have a connection to the world of music through him and the musicians who come through the studio!)

Aloha Cynthia,
First thanks for your comments, appreciate it.
I have to agree with what Robert has said regarding recording studios, the system like the one I have is a rather simple setup, where I can close my garage door, fire up the computer and start the recording, several other musicians have similar setups. but I did not know of a full fledged recording studio like your son has in Hilo, Although Robert has pointed out that someone in Ocean View is building one soon.
By the way does everyone know about a musician's swap meet planned for the 1st and 2nd of September? A swap meet will be going on during the Malama Punalu'u festival in Naalehu. Musicians can bring their musical instruments they no longer need or want, sound systems, accessories, etc.. to sell, swap, trade whatever. The festival will provide an area for this at no charge to the musicians but it's in an open field so musicians should bring something to cover it in case of bad weather and are responsible for their own equipment. All trading is made strictly between the musicians, Malama Punalu'u is providing the venue for this purpose. If any musician wishes to make a donation, we will have a donation box for that purpose but as I mentioned before there is no charge for the swap meet itself.
A couple of voluteers and I will be at the swap meet tent helping out for this first time event!
There will be an art show at the same time 6 artists will have their works displayed, I am participating in that and will have several of my local scenic panoramic photos displayed there.
There will be a live concert with many musical groups playing and that is all free too! Our local group the Punalu'u Boys is scheduled for 4 P.M Sunday. And I thought I had retired!!
Peter

Aloha Cynthia . . . Not to take the ball away from Peter, but just to give you some more information, there are quite a few musicians doing their thing like Peter and his group, sort of 21 century kanikapila . . . I know a guy that plans to get a full studio up and running in Ocean View. You might want to come to the Labor Day weekend events in Na'alehu Park, you can see and talk to lots of local "talent". Aloha Peter,
Lovely photos and music! I've checked in on the South Point forum from time to time, but just joined hoping to ask where you are doing your recording...do you work in Kau?
My SO is a recording engineer here in Hilo and we've toyed with the idea of moving to Ocean View in order to build a studio separate from our home. Should we undertake such a move, it would probably be a while down the road, but I'm curious to know if there is already an operational studio in the area?
Tom does work for Oahu and mainland clients as well as local musicians, so we are always tossing around the idea of opening a B&B tied to the studio and think Kau would be an ideal place for something like that...
Thanks in advance for any insight into the local scene you can provide!
Aloha,
Cynthia

Aloha Mingo,
Mahalo for the compliment, appreciate it very much.
I'm happy you got to hear it too, Johnny Waller on keyboard accompanied me with this recording and we had fun recording it last week.
It's an old 60's melody called "Midnight" originally played by a British Instrumental group called The Shadows, I liked it so much we decided to record our own version of it and put it up on the Shadows group message board, so I left it in that same folder for them to check it out but it does seem appropriate for this gentle melody to celebrate Flossie's safe visit.
Again, Mahalo for listening.
Peter

Hey Peter . . . Plenty Mahalo's for the photos of recent weather.
(for those of you who don't know, Peter is a superb photographer. He is also the guitarist on accompanying sound track.)
Nice little bluesy lick for Flossie. Great!

Flossie was a non-hurricane in Ka'u. The ocean kicked up pretty rough, but in DH & MT the winds were no stronger than the trades, and it never really rained, well one or two sprinkles, but not enough to wet the ground. Like the Civil Defense guy said on the radio, we want to thank the public for staying calm, and thank Mother Nature for our safety.

I couldn't get anything regarding Flossie on either of those links. Crackle says its not available and the Denver one loads........then thanks you for watching.
We were able to see things progress on live webcams on various parts of the BI through the following site
http://www.instanthawaii.com/cgi-bin/hawaii?Weather#volcanos
There's a cam on Alii in Kona, Hilo Bay and several at the observatories that are all on 24/7.

We've been following it closely, since we'll be on the big island later this week. I haven't heard of any flights being canceled yet- I hope it stays that way, and passes through without doing any damage to anyone or anything...

Currently we are experiencing high winds and have all night. The clouds have been rolling in all morning. Since we are so close to South Point, we will experience everything that has been warned. I just read that we can expect as much as 10 inches of rain. Hopefully everyone will be prepared.

HONOLULU - Hurricane Flossie roared toward Hawaii on Monday with its sustained wind increased to 140 mph, and was expected to retain much of its strength by the time it passes by the islands.
Forecasters earlier had said cooler weather would weaken the storm to a Category 1 hurricane, with sustained wind of at least 74 mph, by the time it passes about 70 miles south of the Big Island of Hawaii late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
But on Monday forecasters said they now expected a Category 3 hurricane, with sustained wind of at least 111 mph, to pass the islands.
The intensity has remained stronger than what was originally forecast, but the track has been pretty much right on," said Jim Weyman, the weather service's meteorologist in charge in Honolulu.
The National Weather Service placed the Big Island under a hurricane watch, meaning hurricane conditions were possible within 36 hours. A flash flood watch was also issued for the island through Wednesday, with possible flash flooding in areas.
